Winsted, CT – CT State Northwestern is proud to welcome artist Casen Sullivan to the Gallery at Founders Hall. Sole Expressions: An Upcycled Narrative will be on display February 3 through 20. An artist’s reception is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 3 to 5 p.m. Both the gallery and the reception are free and open to the public.
Sullivan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Boston, Massachusetts who is known for upcycling sneakers, clothing, and furniture. Using the beloved Chuck Taylor silhouette as a canvas, Sullivan creates a humorous link between the culture of consumption and iconography. The likes of life jackets, computer keyboards and sponges are remixed into collage-style sculptures that encapsulate ironic and playful interpretations of these everyday objects.
By applying these popular cultural references to an object of utility, Sullivan explores the sensibility of camp in fashion and its subversion across social media and digital platforms.
The Gallery at Founders Hall is located on the first floor of Founders Hall, 4 Park Place, and is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For information about the show or gallery contact Deborah.Kline@ctstate.edu.
